"Connecting patients — and patients’ families — with the social support they need"

CNtv staff recently reviewed an American Nursing Association Brief with the above title, by SmartBrief’s Elizabeth Collins regarding the importance of sharing patient care information with family and friends. Ms. Collins stated, "Patients these days can take some comfort in knowing that their health can benefit from technology in ways far beyond receiving a diagnostic scan from a cutting-edge device or having robot-guided surgery. They can reap the real benefit of community support by connecting with others — be it other patients with the same medical condition, or family and friends — through social media before, during and after a hospital stay."

The implications of her findings are well known to the CNtv advisory board, as we learned from our previous research and product development of ICU STAT GUIDE. Our product is designed for support of family members of critical care patients. One of the key features of ICU Stat Guide is the easy to use SMS and email text messaging module that allows doctors and nurses to update families anytime,  no matter where they may be; right on their mobile phones.

Elizabeth's blog article referred to the benefits of using social media described by Dr. Richard Sloan PhD  in his blog article "Sharing the Burden;" regarding the sharing of information with family members about his wife's surgery. Mr. Sloan stated, "Because the website was publicly accessible, I was concerned about just how much to share." With the ICU STAT GUIDE email and SMS text message module you don't have to worry about patient privacy. The designated and registered spokes persons are the only member of the patient family receiving the one-way archived text messages from doctors, nurses, clergy, case managers and other related allied healthcare professionals caring for the patient.
